James Meiklejohn

James studied Illustration at Brighton University where his lecturers included Raymond Briggs( The Snowman) and later studied life and portrait painting at Heatherley School of Fine Art, Chelsea. His portraits have been exhibited in the Bp Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He has exhibited his work in galleries throught the UK and in Europe

As wel as portraits and figure paintings James is know as the painter of Hambledon Hill, an Iron Age Hill Fort in North Dorset in view of his studio. He often paints the hill in context to animals and birds which are often found as road kills or from taxidemed specimens

He is a great advocate of working from mainly life to keep his paintings authentic and heartfelt
